ELIXIR-IT is proud to announce that the project proposal “ELIXIRxNextGenIT: Consolidation of the Italian Infrastructure for Omics and Bioinformatics”, has recently been approved as part of the RRP actions, with an endowment of € 18.6 million. The National Research Council (CNR) will coordinate the project with the participation of the Universities of Bari, Milan, Milan Bicocca, Padua, Bologna, and Federico II of Naples.
ELIXIRxNextGenIT is in continuity with the previous “CNR.BiOmics” RI PON development project, its primary goal is to enhance all of the ELIXIR-IT platforms: Data, Compute, Tools, Interoperability, Integrative Omics and Training, and to integrate the activities of ISBE, the national infrastructure dedicated to System Biology.
“The further infrastructural expansion of the “Omics” data production equipment and of the compute and storage platform together with the human resources recruitment – says Elisabetta Sbisà, scientific coordinator of ELIXIRxNextGenIT and CNR.BiOmics – will substantially increase the ELIXIR-IT facilities ecosystem”.
“The empowerment of the Italian Node of ELIXIR, made possible by the funding of these projects – says Graziano Pesole, Head of the Italian Node – will pave the way to a substantial improvement of ELIXIR-IT capabilities and services portfolio. For example, we’ll finally achieve the potential to establish in Italy a much-needed service as the Federated European Genome-phenome Archive (FEGA), which provides the technological basis for leveraging the research value of omics data produced in the clinical practice”.
