ELIXIR-IT participation in the selected ELIXIR Europe Open Science projects

ELIXIR Europe has selected eight new projects, totalling €705,000, to advance Open Science and strengthen FAIR data practices across the life sciences. These initiatives will begin in January 2026 and support the objectives of the ELIXIR Scientific Programme 2024–28.

ELIXIR-IT is directly involved in several of the selected projects, confirming Italy’s active contribution to the ELIXIR ecosystem:

FAIRferm – FAIRifying microbiome–metabolome time-series data from food fermentation processes
KYBELE – Extracting knowledge from biodiversity literature using Large Language Models
FAIR annotation workflows for PDBe-KB – Developing community-driven FAIR workflows for structural annotation

Through this engagement, ELIXIR-IT supports the development of FAIR data standards, contributes to biodiversity and food systems research, and helps drive forward AI-enabled approaches in life science data management.

Further details on all selected projects are available in the official ELIXIR Europe announcement.
