ELIXIR has published a new position paper titled “Securing Open Biodata Resources for European Competitiveness”, calling on European funders and policymakers to recognise the strategic importance of open biodata resources. The document outlines four key policy priorities: investing in open data as a foundation for innovation; ensuring that AI development is rooted in sustainable and FAIR-compliant data infrastructures; building Europe’s capacity to manage and use complex biological data through investment in people and national infrastructure; reinforcing Europe’s leadership in open science by supporting international collaboration and sustainable funding for shared data resources.
